SCALE-UP wishes you Happy Holidays & Happy New Year!

As 2023 is coming to a close, SCALE-UP has completed 31 out of 48 project months. We are very excited about the remarkable progress that has been accomplished in the last 12 months regarding the project’s objectives and all the ongoing measures!

Starting our overview with the City of Antwerp (Belgium) is worth mentioning the development of a freight route planner, serving as a low-cost, environmentally friendly solution for the City of Antwerp and the ambition to serve soon as a tool to develop mobility measures in any city in Europe.

The City of Madrid continues to consolidate different modes of transport and to promote multimodality. The city has recently installed more stations of the electric bicycle rental system, BiciMAD, adding up to a total fleet of 7,500 bikes for 611 stations, aiming to encourage citizens and tourists to use more active and sustainable means of transport.

In 2023, the City of Turku initiated the Sustainable Urban Logistics Plan, in connection with the SCALE-UP Project's measure on carbon-neutral urban logistics. Currently, an investigation of the current logistics and freight traffic conditions in the Turku city centre region is taking place, and in parallel a needs mapping of distribution traffic.

On April 2023, the SCALE-UP consortium united in Madrid, Spain where they used their time effectively to contribute actively in engaging debates and update each other on the ongoing project activities. The launching call for fellow cities was exceptionally successful as many cities from all over Europe applied to participate & learn from the SCALE-UP urban nodes about their innovative mobility and transport actions and policies.

Overall, it was a very fruitful year for the SCALE-UP project as the three urban nodes are one step closer to scaling up better connectivity & climate resilience while further developing complex multi-modal transport systems for their cities & civilians.

The SCALE-UP partners are looking forward to the new year, which includes the launch of mobility measures in each of the Urban Nodes, the design of multimodal hubs and network optimization, and more events and activities.

The entire SCALE-UP consortium wishes you a merry holiday season and a great start to 2024!
