SCALE-UP & MOVE 21 Improve Governance & Decarbonise Mobility at ECOMM 2022

Together with SCALE-UP’s sister project MOVE21 (represented by City of Oslo and HafenCity University Hamburg), SCALE-UP partners City of Turku, City of Antwerp, Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and Turku University of Applied Sciences (Turku AMK) participated in a join session at the ECOMM 2022 conference, which took place in Turku, Finland this year.

Prof. Dr. Andrés Monzón of Polytechnic University of Madrid

UPM presented their findings of different methodologies to map the potential for implementing a MaaS service in Madrid metropolitan area. By comparing different modes of transport and user behaviour over 5 years, it has been possible to gather and utilise data-driven insights and learn which measures work better than others.

City of Antwerp introduced their data-driven measures such as the city’s own travel planner (which combines all modes of transport into one) and the Big Link project to finalise a ring road around the city. Both of these projects allow the mobility department to nudge citizens’ and also visitors’ behaviour towards more sustainable modes of transport successfully.

Stella Aaltonen of City of Turku and Annika Kunnasvirta of Turku University of Applied Sciences

Finally, local project partners City of Turku and Turku AMK discussed their lessons learned with mobility hubs in the urban space. By offering comprehensive and multi-modal hubs, sustainable and/or shared transport is encouraged. This makes the entire urban space more liveable and safer for all citizens.
