Overview of SCALE-UP Progress at Interim Review Meeting
On 19 June 2024, the Project Management Board (PMB) of the SCALE-UP project, which consists of the Project Coordinators and the WP Leaders, met at the Den Bell offices of Project Coordinator City of Antwerp in Antwerp (Belgium) for the second Interim Review meeting with the European Climate, Infrastructure, and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA). The main aim of the meeting was to evaluate the project's progress and plan for the upcoming, final year of the project.
Representatives from each Work Package (WP) shared their key findings and milestones achieved in their efforts to enhance urban mobility in the three Urban Nodes participating in the project: Antwerp (Belgium), Madrid (Spain), and Turku (Finland). This meeting allowed partners to review and discuss the development of SCALE-UP activities, ensuring they are well-prepared for the fourth and final year of the project.
Over the past three years, significant progress has been made towards fostering sustainable and inclusive mobility through the implementation of cutting-edge urban solutions. These initiatives include pedestrianisation strategies, improvements to urban transportation systems, the introduction of Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning (SULP) in various cities, the promotion of cycling as an efficient mode of transport by implementing various strategies in the three Urban Nodes, the enhancement of parking facilities and service points and various more strategies and measures.
In the upcoming year, all 28 measures will be evaluated across the three Urban Nodes to improve the lives of citizens and make transport accessible to all. The final results of the evaluation, lead by project partner Transport Mobility Leuven (TML) will also determine the final exploitation strategies to keep successful measures running beyond the project duration and enabling also the replication by Fellow Cities across all of Europe.
Mr Yannick Bousse, Project Officer at CINEA, attended the meeting in person and interacted with WP Leaders as they showcased their developments and findings. Mr Bousse posed questions, provided valuable feedback and additional ideas, contributing to the project's ongoing successful implementation.
The meeting was very productive, with all SCALE-UP partners actively exchanging ideas and brainstorming on ambitious plans that will shape the future of sustainable urban mobility. So far, all of SCALE-UP’s milestones and deliverables have been submitted on time, which are also available on the SCALE-UP website.
