SCALE-UP initiates regional rail network in Southwest Finland

One of the mobility measures of SCALE-UP in the wider Turku area include the planning and eventual construction of the first regional rail connection, connecting the City of Turku to 24 other stops in Southwest Finland.

The Regional Council of Southwest Finland kicked off the measure by bringing together 13 municipalities along the railway line.

Cycling skills of children at the core of Turku’s future activation model

Democratising the access to adequate and sufficient physical activity for children is core to guaranteeing their long-term wellbeing and the development of their motor skills. The City of Turku has launched a programme to improve the cardiorespiratory fitness levels of kids and give them equal access to bicycles. It is tested in 3 schools and 2 kindergartens in the city and involves families as well as teachers and caretakers.

Expanding Madrid’s extensive cycling network

Madrid has added an additional 5.9 kilometres of cycling lane to its’ network. The new dedicated corridors in Avenida De Las Trece Rosas (2.5km) and in Avenida De La Gavia (3.4km) connect also to the wider cycling network. The city continues to work on an ever growing and interconnected network of cycling lanes to render active mobility more attractive and competitive with other modes of transport.

Permit for free-floating sharing systems in Antwerp

A permit for free-floating sharing systems has been rolled out to guarantee public order and safety and avoid an oversupply of sharing systems. The city also checks whether operators have sufficient capacity when they deploy to ensure its proper operation.

Madrid 360º launches ambitious Pedestrian Plan

The inauguration of the pedestrianization of commercial sections of Recoletos Street and Cid Street has taken place. The plan creates 2,316 m2 of pedestrian area, reduces traffic by 1,338 vehicles per day without affecting public transport operations or the cycling network and introduces a "Zero Zone" for low emissions. The Madrid 360 Environmental Sustainability Strategy includes the design of a network of safe, comfortable and barrier-free pedestrian routes as one of the fundamental axes to promote micro-mobility and reduce polluting emissions in the capital.

Explore new tool to learn from local areas speeding-up the roll-out mobility solutions

The CIVITAS FastTrack project launches a new online tool, which allows readers to toggle through a database of state-of-the-art examples of successfully speeding-up the roll-out of mobility solutions. The tool will be updated periodically with new examples that provide tips, lessons learnt, and links for more information.
