Introducing the Seven SCALE-UP Fellow Cities
SCALE-UP is excited to introduce & welcome the seven Fellow Cities that will upscale their transport system in terms of multi-modality, connectivity, and regional impact!
The seven Cities selected will exchange and learn from the innovative measures and policies developed in the three SCALE-UP Urban Nodes: Antwerp (BE), Madrid (ES), and Turku (FI) as part of the SCALE-UP project.
Planning Urban and Trans-European Mobility Together
On 22-23 April, the City of Oslo is hosting a dynamic two-day on-site event at the Oslo City Hall (Norway), co-organised by POLIS and Eurocities, titled "Planning Urban and Trans-European Mobility Together”.
Mr Michiel Penne from the City of Antwerp, Mr Sergio Fernández Balaguer, from the MunicipalTransport Company of Madrid (EMT) and MrsStella Aaltonen, from the City of Turku, three SCALE-UP consortium partners will actively participate, sharing insights and best practices in urban planning and showcasing recent SCALE-UP developments.
Castellana Cycling Lane Redesigns Traffic in the City of Madrid
A new bike lane section on the Paseo de la Castellana avenue is part of the main axis of the cycling network in the city of Madrid, Spain. It aims to provide a segregated, safe, and connected bike lane infrastructure from North to South, covering one of the busiest internal transport corridors of the city.

SCALE-UP Project Shines at the RTR Conference 2024
On 6 February 2024, the SCALE-UP project showcased its progress at the RTR Conference in Brussels, Belgium. As in past years, the conference focused on the achievements of EU-funded research in transportation and mobility, especially projects funded under the Horizon2020 and Horizon Europe framework programmes.
Mr Michiel Penne and Mrs Katia Kishchenko (both from the Project Coordinator City of Antwerp) presented the progress and latest insights from SCALE-UP in the session “Urban Mobility-Cities as Urban Hubs and Urban Logistics”, including SCALE-UP sister project MOVE21 as well as related EU-funded projects, LEAD and ULaads projects.

The Cycling Conditions in Finnish Municipalities Report for 2023, written by Mrs Marianne Turunen describes the status, trends and conditions of cycling promotion in Finnish municipalities.
The survey was carried out by Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, as in the past editions, published in 2010 and 2018 respectively.

Turku awarded with EU's Mission Label for climate leadership in NetZeroCities programme
The European Commission has awarded its ‘Mission Label’ to 23 cities participating in the NetZeroCities programme, marking a significant achievement in the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission. Led by the EIT Climate-KIC, NetZeroCities is an integral component of the EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, which falls under the umbrella of Horizon Europe.
The City of Turku, a SCALE-UP Urban Node, was one of the 23 cities awarded for the City’s plans to achieve climate-neutrality already by 2030 and the effort to facilitate access to public and private funding towards that objective.
Over EUR 22 billion requested for transport infrastructure projects proposing to enhance the Trans-European Transport network
CINEA received 408 applications requesting over EUR 22 billion in co-funding from the Connecting Europe Facility by the call deadline of 30 January 2024. This represents an oversubscription of over 3 times the total budget of EUR 7 billion available for this call for proposals.
The Connecting Europe Facility for Transport is the key EU funding instrument for the construction and upgrade of sustainable transport infrastructure in Europe.
