A bike sharing revolution for Antwerp

In the Antwerp Urban Node a new electric bicycle scheme for the entire Functional Urban Area (FUA) was launched, including the deployment of more than 1,650 bikes at multimodal mobility hubs and Park & Ride stations.

Since 9th August 2022 people can take Koen, Scott, Ayris, Candide or Heleen to bike in and around Antwerp. Those are only some of the bike names of the new bike sharing system which SCALE-UP partner Lantis started to deploy in the Antwerp Transport Region.

Meet SCALE-UP at the Urban Mobility Days and Transport Research Arena 2022

The SCALE-UP consortium attends two major events this autumn, where representatives are going to present some first project results and submit two paper publications. Read the article below to find out more on where to meet us!

The first event were the Urban Mobility Days 2022 in Brno, Czech Republic, which took place as a hybrid event on 20-22 September 2022.

The second event is the upcoming Transport Research Arena (TRA) taking place in Lisbon, Portugal in person on 14-17 November 2022.

Province of Antwerp Ready to SCALE-UP

Antwerp Province has set a mission to become the showcase “cycling province” of Belgium. The realisation of a safe, inclusive and comfortable bicycle network for functional travels across the entire Province is the spearhead of this mission.

Two concrete steps to realise this vision have been taken by the Antwerp Province. Find out more in the article below about the new framework agreement for traffic studies (and how it can be useful for cities outside of the Province on a European level) and by conducting a pilot project with smart cameras on near-accident detection to increase the safety of cycling.

Experts in mobility management looking for extra inspiration in Turku at ECOMM 2022

Turku hosted the European Conference on Mobility Management (ECOMM) on 31 May – 2 June 2022. The Conference is held in a different European city every year and is related to mobility management.

The development of mobility and traffic in the Turku region towards a carbon neutral future and the year 2029 when Turku celebrates its 800th anniversary. The purpose of organising the Conference was to inspire the participants to implement sustainable mobility actions in their work. Read more about the conference in the article below!

The ‘Smart ways to Antwerp‘ app now includes pioneering route navigation

The ‘Smart ways to Antwerp‘ smartphone app now includes brand-new, comprehensive live navigation. This first beta version of the navigation is not yet final.

In the coming weeks and months, the app will be tweaked and given new functionalities that will further improve navigation. Find out more about the latest changes and additional features in the article below.

Madrid launches the most powerful mobility hub for electric vehicles in Spain

The futuristic new hub offers charging stations for multimodal transport, including electric cars, motorbikes, bicycles and last-mile logistic vehicles.

The Canalejas 360 project covers 5,500 m² and has a total charging capacity of 2.5 MW. The hub is expected to significantly boost the use of private electric vehicle use in Madrid centre, although the use of shared vehicles is favoured and dedicated spaces have been implemented for them.
