SCALE-UP Urban Node Turku Kick-Off Meeting
The first of three Urban Nodes in the SCALE-UP Project has held a kick-off day on 28 September 2021, consisting of several presentations and introductions to all of the planned tasks as well as available resources. The Urban Node consists of several partners including the City of Turku, the University of Applied Sciences Turku and the Regional Council of Southwest Finland.
One of the main objectives at an urban, regional and national level of this Urban Node is the shift to environmentally sustainable and ideally healthy modes of public transport (like bicycling, walking or an extended bus and train network) even in winter months and - connected to this - a better support of competitive and attractive areas. The City of Turku has set an ambitious goal of reaching complete carbon neutrality by the year 2029.
A total of 10 measures are to be implemented within the Turku city area:
Sustainable travel chains through multilevel governance & cooperation;
Mobility hubs across Turku;
MaaS ticket combos & adaptive parking;
Mobility portal for both personal transport & logistics;
Real-time regional mobility data platform;
Inclusive cycling measures;
Carbon-free city logistics & construction sites;
Incentivisation of available mobility services;
Mobility guidance;
Winter as a mobility season.
The meeting also served in presenting the current state of transport and mobility offerings in the city, including electric bike, bus and boat operations as well as a comprehensive service map.
