4 SCALE-UP consortium partners attended and co-created the Urban Mobility Days 2022.

In the Antwerp Urban Node a new electric bicycle scheme for the entire Functional Urban Area (FUA) was launched, including the deployment of more than 1,650 bikes at multimodal mobility hubs and Park & Ride stations.

The SCALE-UP consortium attends two major events this autumn, where representatives are going to present some first project results and submit two paper publications.

Antwerp Province has set a mission to become the showcase “cycling province” of Belgium. The realisation of a safe, inclusive and comfortable bicycle network for functional travels across the entire Province is the spearhead of this mission, with a particular focus on the creation and expansion of inter-connected bicycle highways.

In line with previous SCALE-UP Knowledge Exchange Seminars (see here), aimed at sharing experiences, policies, techniques and knowledge across the three project Urban Nodes (Turku, Antwerp and Madrid), a final seminar was held online on 22 June 2022.

In order to gain knowledge on vertical and horizontal integration, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held on April 21st, with a group of local experts, in Escuela de Caminos de la Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, Spain (UPM)

The first annual General Assembly of the project was hosted by the City of Antwerp in Belgium and brought together almost all consortium partners, adding up to a total number of over 60 attendees for 3 days.

Two wheeled vehicles are gaining ground in the urban mobility landscape. Madrid City Council opening two more cycle lanes this month with the idea of continuing to promote the use of this active mode of transport.

The city of Turku is developing a sustainable activation model within the SCALE-UP project. Its’ aim is to increase the number of families and children cycling and to encourage the use of other sustainable transportation to kindergartens and schools.

Introduction to the regional trail traffic network plan for Southwest Finland and the traffic vision of the transport system plan 2040+ with up to 25 potential stations.

A final Urban Node kick-off day took place on 03 December 2021, consisting of several presentations and discussions addressing all of the planned tasks as well as challenges and knowledge needs.

In support of the 3 urban nodes of SCALE-UP - Antwerp, Madrid and Turku - a capacity building workshop has been held yesterday. Its’ main purpose was to give each city the right tools to correctly assess the potential of innovative mobility measures ahead.
